Abdullah  Jan Maghmoom ,alias , MARCHAKAY, PINDA KHAN one of the most popular and distinguished artist of Radio Pakistan  Peshawar .He is one of the pioneers and  unique radio artist of his time.And very popular due to his distinctive accent and voice, there fore,vat that time radio listeners used to wait for his program very anxiously and impatiently  In those days radio artist were like celebrities as there was no TV or movies  available for the general public. And he enjoyed that position and attention for all his life. He was equally popular amongst the elders. Youngsters and children, male and female. His fascinating stylish, and melodious voice and piercing dialogue attracted the radio listeners and consoled their emotions and inspiration. Abdullah jan Maghmoom gave new style of broadcasting to Radio  Peshawar in pushto language. It is worth mentioning that Radio Pakistan Peshawar has not been able to find his substitute.

Abdullah Jan Maghmoom was born in 1928 a village in Pakistan, the province of K.P.K. called Darmangi. He was born in a religious and educated family, his father was a known scholar; sheikhul Hadith, Hafiz of the Quran, a known scholar, and religious teacher. After finishing high school, he got a job in studio club- radio Pakistan, in Peshawar.  
This job made him close to broadcasting, script writing, and drama, plays etc. He became a talk show host, a show called Hujarah, and his character was Penda Khan, he became very popular. The program lasted for 31 years, and was broadcasted  everyday. The seniors NOW can still remember this program. On August 14th, 1947 it was he, who announced that Pakistan got independence from the British (In pashtu language). His show was very popular among males, females, youngsters, and elders-he had a very nice style of speaking, and could be considered the Oprah Winfrey of Pakistan at the time. He introduced a new style of broadcasting, radio Pakistan is not able to find a substitute for the character. He was given the Tamgha imtiaz medal from the government of Pakistan for his dedicated service for his nation, in the form of literature, language, cultural reformation, and broadcasting.



From 1958-1961 Mr. Maghmoom was the editor of a bi-weekly journal "Khapalwak" which focused on literature, poetry etc. He also wrote many plays for TV and radio. He won first place for his play "Zawani marga" (can be viewed the "photos" page"). His book "Khawagha trakha" won first place the Gild writer association of Pakistan (National writers association of Pakistan. It's like getting an Oscar award for a play.

In the mean time he had a pharmaceutical business, a Pak British food factory, and had a real estate business, plus he wrote many books, and poetry. His list of books etc., is on the book list page. His poet nickname was Maghmoom.

He is from the Sini Khel Khattak tribe. After elementary school he was admitted to Islamia high school, now known as a Government secondary High  school No.3, He was very smart and had outstanding grades and marks. He got married in 1947 (Age 18), he had four daughters, as well as three sons. They all got married. The older son is residing in Canada as a business man. The second son was retired as a Major from Pakistan Army. The youngest son crashed his helicopter in Serra Leon, Africa , serving with UN as a Col helicopter pilot..
Maghmoom's wife, Rabia Mumtaz was a well known Pushtu poet, She is the author of three  books in Pushtu poetry. She passed  away in November, 2012, and Abdullah Jan Maghmoom passed away on September 6th, 2013
